Backyard chicken coops: good idea or not?

The issue of whether or not urban centers should allow backyard chicken coops has sparked an ongoing debate in my neck of the woods ("crying foul" insert joke here).

Vancouver city council recently amended an animal control bylaw, making it legal to keep chickens on many more residential properties.Residents who own land of less than an acre are allowed up to 4 hens in their backyards.

Other urban areas in the US have already approved such a by-law including New York, Seattle and Portland.

Here are some of the stipulations that come with owning chickens;

Coops must be between four square feet and ten square feet in size, and cannot be kept in front yards or on apartment or condominium balconies.Other fowl such as roosters, turkeys and ducks are not allowed, and eggs produced by the hens cannot be sold commercially. When hens reach the end of their lifespan of up to six years, they cannot be killed by the owner, but must be taken to to slaughterhouse or veterinarian for slaughter or euthanasia.Urban sustainability: fresh, locally grown eggs can reduces carbon for communities and families as an educational tool.Instil footprint.Good discipline in children.Noise: backyard chickens can produce noise and in smaller neighbors may not appreciate it.Odour quarters: (yes I'm going to use another "foul" joke). Disease: we had a run of avian flu a few years back and the little critters can spread disease.Urban predators: chickens may attract coyotes, foxes and other geographically-specific predators.

Where do you come out on backyard chicken coops?

Weight loss: A very cool solution

freezing.jpg

Take a former NASA scientist curious and an author of advanced pop culture, and the result may be a method of weight loss revolutionary (and perhaps a little uncomfortable).

Through the laws of thermodynamics, Ray Cronise has hypothesized that strategic exposure to cold accelerate loss of peso.Él credits this method for its 30-pound weight loss in six weeks.

Says Cronise;

Our body temperature remains constant and have much energy to keep it that way, no different from home heating...Try... my body like a thermostat to see if you could run utility bill and get oven (my metabolism) running on full blast.Source

A curiosity seed was planted in Cronise to learn prolific caloric intake of Michael Phelp. came in it was cold, water forcing Phelps who fight to maintain its temperature.

Use of swimming and something called thermal load, where the body is exposed to cold in various ways, Cronise some military old applied research and found that he could lose up to four pounds to the semana.Técnicas include ice and underscoring ice water baths.

It is a paradigm - shift while that we traditionally think in heating the body to induce a metabolic boost - Cronise suggests focusing in the cooling.

Theory will come to fruition in the form of a book by the author of "4-day work week" Tim Ferris, where Cronise is a case study and the taxpayer.Between a thorough investigation of Ferris, discovered a technique that uses temperature handling to improve loss of fat by 300 percent.

Dr. David Katz, founder of the center of integrative medicine and Professor at Yale University, had to say about the concept;
Be cold is uncomfortable.Frankly, if people are willing to be miserable to lose weight might as well try eating well and exercising.

A valid point and one of the best quotes I have heard much tiempo.Y while former military research offers some reasons to be optimistic, most focused on maintaining the soldiers weight and not loss of weight, per se.No I have seen a trial with a control group to support Cronise anecdotal experiences.

On the other hand, I live in Canada - I have cold here 8 months of the year. ultimate I want to do after you start the entry of a cold rainy day is submerged in a cold tub or crush ice water vessels.

So while theory makes complete sense, I recommend still cautious optimism - sounds like a strategy of moderately potentially useful attached, the standard eating better and less and more ejercicio.En best would be to say that this strategy is evolutionary rather than revolutionary.

Will try this as a method of fat loss?

New law proscribes basically Happy Meals

SUPTROOPBURGER.JPG

San Francisco is generally an established new type of city; hipsters peaceniks, folk singers, consumers, whackos, all living together perfect harmony.

But on Tuesday, San Francisco passed new legislation is not so lovey-dovey, at least not for local fast food restaurants.

"Kids meals" already cannot sell it with toys, if specific; nutritional standardsstandards that may threaten to Happy Meals McDonalds.

Tuesday, 8 3 veto-proof vote, San Francisco, officials approved a law that would allow restaurants to give toys with meals for children only if meals have less than 600 calories, contain fruits and vegetables and include drinks without excessive fat or sugar. law takes effect on December 1, 2011.

The first thing that comes to mind is happy McDonalds meal. Since 1979, when introduced Happy Meals, McDonald's has used guys, specifically free toy, food to market directly to children.

McDonalds could not indicate which frankly, but come on, we all know what those cheap plastic "made in China" toys really for - "Mama I McDonalds!"

Here is a commercial Happy Meal since 1979 in Klingon:

San Francisco officials say that the law is designed to help combat; childhood obesityhard to argue against. But McDonald's isn't happy about él.Un company spokesperson said that they are disappointed with the new law and called getting free in a Happy Meal toy "part of a fun, family experience".

A law like this without a doubt, is one of those bad "progressive" initiatives so many Americans have fears de.Y Yes, very big brother-ish.And Yes, the Government put the screws to private industry. But there are other solutions out there? we have a lot of fatty children! simply view!

MCDFATKIDS.jpg

Not burying your head in the sand and pretend things are the same as they were in 1979.Ahora, in 2010, we have a major obesity epidemic, both children as adults - so to make a change, a change that matters, sometimes have to the ball of the historia.Por therefore, calm and give an opportunity to law.

If you think that it is anti-American for children to be stripped of their right to McDonalds and cheap toys, it is easy to circumvent the ley.Llevar children to McDonald's, things they filled with fries and burgers, and then drag their butts soon bloated at Toys "r" US.Problema solved!

Would you work out in fitness her?

madonnb.jpg

I guess we should not be too surprised, but eternal superstar (with the exception of his hands) has announced the opening of its new line of fitness - centers "Hard Candy Fitness" (how Seriously? what-better that Sweet and Sticky I guess?)

Sense someone kept as suitable like Madonna would be interested in a company of fitness.En 52, Madonna is FIT - has always taken seriously their health.

The new string opens its first store in the city of Mexico 29 November, and there are plans to expand to Brazil Argentina, Russia, elsewhere in Europe and Asia.

So apart from the fact that it is of "Madonna gym", "Hard Candy Fitness" (new cringes) has to offer?

The company is a partnership with the town of 24 hour fitness which means that it is likely that we will see a cookie named cutter gym its and a few high-end ornaments. (Trying to not be hard, but the same happened in my city with a high-profile Canadian hoops star).

30,000 Square foot club will have children's Book Center, a fashion line, a spa called La Isla Bonita (Like a Virgin) day care center.

A second copy...

...You can eventually get on "Hard Candy Fitness", but I cannot even start to explain how wrong is to call its centre crèche "Like a Virgin". What's next? what line of children's clothing called "Material Girl"? Oh wait...!

The gym will also include a fruit bar Center, a study of the bicycle, cardio machines with screens of individual viewing and various types of dance in the form of Zumba, fitness programs move Latin and Cardio Kickboxing. These types of classes are popular at the moment, and I suspect that they remain at the top of the hottest trends in group exercise.

How much this set back?"Not so much as one might think that"-according to the general director (source) .Supongo that is in code, "Yes, it will be overpriced but not so ridiculously exorbitant as you might expect".

I should be grateful Madonna not train with Tracy Anderson already and not go into business with it.I can only imagine tour that gym;"This is the weight room... here are weights 1 lb, 2 pound weights and there are strong one - 3 pounds - careful with those!"

The gym will be equipped with some of the best-known cardio and brands such as; Hammer Strength PreCor, Nautilus, Hoist, StarTrac, free movement, AbCoaster, TRX force training suspension training am more interested in squat racks how many banks and free have weights, but are presumably - appealing to the high-end masses who like bells and whistles.

Only sections of a woman named "N"Guy"bar with"Vanilla Ice"AsegÃ.El fruit snack bar sell a terrible version of American PieTrainers which have engendered children.TV Madonna than any of the films of Madonna."

In all seriousness, will probably be a flawless experience and have some "Flash", has most of the clubes.Yo prefer hierro-heavy configurations bones naked with a large amount of physical space, but usually I'm in the minority.

"With international appeal of Madonna, could be a recipe for success arrollador.Como Mark Mastrov, says the partner of Madonna in the undertaking;""Madonna's touch is everywhere".... I'll leave that you one alone!

Sues McDonalds and WINS employee

1011mcdonalds.jpg

We have seen (and raised an eyebrow in) News customers Sue fast food manufacturers to make them fat.

But here is a new one: a McDonald's employee successfully has sued the company because gained weight while working there.

The employee without a name of the branch of a McDonalds in Brazil, blamed the company by their due weight gain that:
Your work needs include testing flavour food (due to frequent inspections "mystery of the customer").
Realized with lunch for free - but no healthy choices.

Started to work for McDonald's at the age of 18 years, with a weight of a healthy 154 pounds. After twelve years, had acquired 65 pounds.

João Filho judge ruled that the company should pay $17,500 to the employee. They have the right to appeal and are reported to consider their options.

Frankly, I am surprised that won A gain of 65 lbs in 12 years is about 5.5 pounds per year, which is not a gain excessively rápida.Si employee had previously lifestyle pretty active in school, he might well have gained so much weight by a sedentary desktop post.

If you think that is a crazy crazy turned litigation example, or a story about McDonald's get what they deserve, this open debate about how much employers responsible for the health of its employees.

If you work in a company with limited or unhealthy food options, are fault if you end up overweight? if your work involves sampling food, what steps should their employer taken to ensure that this does not affect your health?

Does gain weight of progesterone causes? [Forum]

My doctor visited last week for an annual check up and said that my hormones were out of balance. She decided to give me a recipe for progesterone. I heard about your medication, causing increased weight and anxiety, but do not really know what they believe, as my doctor assures me that I will not have side effects. When I was on a similar drug at the beginning of this year, I purchased a substantial amount of weight (but I was also not exercise regularly either).

I have to be cautious about weight gain with a new drug, and if so how how I can I fight it (if it is even possible)?

Survey: does Facebook Give Good advice on health?

facebook-heath-advice.jpg

Not if you ask expert Health Harvard William Shrank, who calls to Facebook "Wild West" when it comes to health information.

This is because the Studio on your computer to the popular social networking site which found that many health recommendations came from those requesting not approved by the FDA products and services.

Diabetes 15 pages related to Facebook, 27% of the comments were promotional products FDA sanctioned not or methods of people.

The Harvard team recommends the following:

"The responsible politicians should consider how to ensure transparency in promotional activities, and patients can find social networking sites developed and patrolled by health professionals to promote the exchange of accurate and unbiased information"

I recognize that there are people on Facebook trying to take advantage of people to make a ball, but also find fault with the idea that only the FDA and health professionals have accurate and unbiased information.

How many times has wrong state FDA? how can the innumerable amount of anecdotal evidence ignored showing the effectiveness of the FDA treatments of the medical profession or not approved?

Actually, this shows the attitude of "we are smarter and better that you" some academic institutions seem to have, especially in front of those who think outside the box when it comes to diet, health and fitness.

What are your thoughts about the notion that we should consider only health professionals of the FDA and health councils? participate in the comments and the following survey.

Should consumers only consider FDA and doctor approved products and treatments when addressing health issues?

The vibe Web site says that:

Improve the smell, Sensa Tastants were designed to help speed up the process and trigger signal "I am completely, so eat less and more satisfied.

Vibe is currently on sale at United States, at a cost of $59 for the supply of one month from the cristales.Se expects other countries to start selling them soon.Dieters are lured by the promise that can be carried out in exactly eat that already eating, not counting calories or exercise: the only change is that they sprinkle vibe crystals in each meal and snack.

But once again, we should perhaps we exit the Presidents killed due to a new study says when you pay with cash, less likely to buy junk food.

I bet the vending machine industry has known this for years his dirty little secret, "If you configure it, buying."

Published in the Journal of Consumer Research, the scientists found that people are less likely to buying unhealthy foods when van edible purchases if you pay with cash, rather than bad plastic debit or credit cards.

To analyze the 1,000 households United States beyond six months shopping carts, researchers observed shopping carts contained more impulse or junk food purchases when people pay with credit cards or debit and not in cash.

The researchers called "more painful than card payments" cash payments.Painful is the word perfecta.La buying junk food with plastic is easier to swallow, which could help people encouraged to buy with cash them develop better shopping and eating habits.

Its really tempting over-shop when not paid with money in efectivo.Cuando put toilet paper, generic vodka and registration, orange juice is easy to grab bar Snickers.Eres money seems unlimited. only deal with it when it comes to Bill.

I do not I went edible purchases with cash in years. If I went to pay and ran out of money in cash, would have a stroke and drop dead on the ground.

Diet fat dad may Give daughters diabetes

UNCLEBUCK.jpg

The old man can give you a lot of things: his hot temperament, his big hairy feet, his broken down old Buick - but diabetes?

Apparently so, if you're a girl.

New research found laboratory rats men eating a diet fat increases the risk of female offspring develop diabetes.

Sounds like a strange form of nepotism shrill.

For the study, published in the journal Nature, scientists feed a group of male laboratory rats a fatty diet and another group a normal diet.It is no wonder, rats in fat diet became obese and diabetic.

Then gave the rats a booty call, link children with weight 13 weeks normal.después girl rats, female offspring of obese and diabetic rats began to show signs of the diabetes.EEK!I mean, squeak!

Researchers say that sperm obese father can be affected by metabolic changes and somehow, is being transferred to their offspring.

I bet it is too much to humans, but is probably more innate nature.

Chances are that if his father feels a great steak, eggs, bacon and sausage breakfast each morning, and grows thinking is not nothing wrong in that and regularly nosh their own lumberjack breakfast will probably run into some health problems later in life too.

My old eating Cherrios with milk chocolate, sprinkled with sugar, luckily I missed that new hábito.De, I am not a chick!.

I do not think that there is a unique way of doing things, but here is a very simple fact you definitely need to understand...

No one is responsible for their health, but you!

Soon you realize, better.

There are many things in life, that simply cannot be trusted to demás.Y, although you can try to delegate responsibility for their health diet gurus, occupational health, even your employer or the Government, ultimately, you are the only person that can deal with this problem and do it well.

Thus, the next time that go to make a choice of unhealthy lifestyle, remember that their actions will always have a consequence - option do / or not doing something is that you only.

Rather than view this responsibility as a heavy load, however, seen as something that can change and realizar.Es a gift - feel empowered by it!

Obesity in the United States were expected to grow

BIKER.jpg

Obesity can not be taken lightly - the intention of not pun - with countries like the United States and Mexico buckling under the weight of a global epidemic.

Most health experts are in agreement that the spread of Western life style is largely of guilt; junk more food, is not enough exercise.

And now a new study says that the number of overweight or swell obese people in the United States by 2020.

Study conducted by the Organization for economic cooperation and development (OECD), a French based group that works with the Nations democratic, free market, said in the year 2020, three in four Americans will be overweight or obese, increasing the fees and costs of health care disease.

Obesity's price tag is asombroso.En 1998, 78.5 million dollars were spent in the United States on medical treatment related to obesity; equaling 9.1% of medical expenses of todo.NationMaster.com classifies the United States, Mexico and the United Kingdom as the beginning of three Nations more obese, in that order.

The OECD also fingers as fat nation in the world and forecasts for the year 2010, 75% of Americans will be with sobrepeso.Es why OECD calls interaction and government industry cooperation curb the crisis.

Authors of the study have blamed bad habits to break in obesity: consume too much junk food high in calories, not getting enough exercise and more people eating in restaurants, instead of cooking at home.

Therefore, do you think that we can stop the obesity epidemic?

September 11, 2010My weekend goal: Avoid the cake!

This was the first full week of school for the kids . . . and I did a poor job of getting myself to bed as earlier as possible (which, in my particular life, means about 12:30 a.m.).  That means I dozed most of the morning away after waking up one kid at 6 a.m. and the other at 8 a.m. . . .

Next week, I am going to make a serious effort at getting to bed as soon as possible so I can exercise and get my day off to a more energetic start.  I'm thinking of trying 30 minutes of cardio in the morning and 30 minutes of cardio at night.  I'll let you know how it goes!

Meanwhile, I have a really busy weekend ahead of me . . . which involves more birthday cake, which I am going to avoid at all costs.  Pray for me.  :)

Have a great weekend!

PIC NIC kindergarten bags get a lack grade

KindergardenCop16.jpg

A box lunch audit by dietitian Shannon Crocker 4 classes in kindergarten in Ontario, has left much to be desired.

Cold hot dogs, rubbery trafficking, drinks sweetened fruit and packaged cookies were pair for the course in picketing of Dora and Diego luncheon (children do lunch pales already?).

Here are some other undesirable results of this survey of 82 lunches.

85% of lunch had no vegetables all.Almost each container had a sweet delight and some until five.Only five included lunch milk, but most of them had at least a sugary drink flavoured with little or zero children fruit nutritional value.Most had only a drink to get through the day, while some had no drink in all.92% did not have a cooler - package for some meals containing spaghetti sauces and meat that would be prone to bacteria, leaving for caliente.muchas meals did not provide enough food for the long day that children were in school. Crocker has a theory on this one though;
If a child does not eat much, parents could package of small quantities of food, or busy morning allows little time to mount lunches, money may be a factor, or may not have been plenty of food in the refrigerator that day. Source

Obviously this is about of multi-level.Stresses the need for education and access to healthy food for children. The socioeconomic status of the schools in question was not mentioned, but it goes without saying that children need to have access to healthy foods.

This is further complicated by sponsoring large food item, and a resulting biased perception of what is considered to be "healthy".

I think that parents can take some very simple and inexpensive steps to promote the nutritional quality of lunch in their only seconds hijos.Tarda to include some baby carrots or sliced vegetables (with dip hummus or red pepper for example), an Apple, whole grain cheese biscuits and a sandwich tuna entero.Y, no grain bread takes absolutely not to be included a sugary drink.

If all other fails, get Detective John Kimble to teach your class.

The Twinkie diet: eating junk food and weight loss?

Eating cake - on a diet?

It has been dubbed "the Twinkie diet" by means of communication: Mark Haub, Professor at Kansas State University Department of human nutrition, has been surviving on junk food for last month.

And he has lost weight.

This might seem to fly in front of nutritional conventional wisdom. What after all, the junk food weight results win, right?

Haub began the "Twinkie diet" agosto.Desde 25, has been mainly eat cake swiss, blueberry muffins, rolls for hot dogs, Peanut Butter Oreos, and cinnamon rolls.

As well as the junk food, Haub has milk (protein) and vegetables (for vitamins) with dinner.

By sticking to 1,800 calories per day - roughly less than 600-800, which he would be required to maintain the weight - Haub lost 10 pounds in the first three weeks of "diet".

It should not come as as sorpresa.después, could lose weight eating two candy bars a day: is the calories - calories - verses out what subject.

Haub is not doing this, because he is an addicted to junk food - it supports missing salad and cheese azul.está trying to open debate about how low-income people can not eat healthily (on diet, food costs have dropped to about $ 5 per day):

Is not realistic in some areas of the company to expect that they found fresh broccoli, tomatoes at a price affordable. What if someone can obtain their nutrients from a supplement, and then get your fuel of everything that is available, matter that he is not getting fruit and vegetables and whole grains? what is the well?

Of course, there are great nutritional questions to ask about a diet based on sugar, salt, products processed. nutrition is more than calorías.Además, most people on a diet of junk food would so hungry (due to failures of sugar and lack of fiber) that would be hard-pressed to stick to a restriction of calories.

Do you think? Haub experiment is important in a world where processed, packaged foods are often much cheaper than new ones? O this is a dangerous form of diet?

I retrieve one days excessive power? [Forum]

I have been in a very strict diet for the past few months. I have eaten anywhere from 800-1500 calories a day but fiery 1000 only at the gym during 3 days a week and other days that would make a lighter exercise as a hike of 3 to 5 miles or a 7 vs game of football 7. most of the time my calories would around the year 1000 and probably around the year 1500 maybe twice.

anyway a couple of days ago I decided to my intake of calories to approximately 1500 mean to try to keep my cause of weight that I don't want to lose more, I would just like to keep it.

I was having a hardtime and closer was around the year 1200. I feel pretty guilty eating more.

But today for breakfast which was a pb & J on bread lime 100 thins that there were about 200 calories, calories 387 bran muffin lunch.all was well until dinner and my dad made tacos, I had 7 and two portions large rice Spanish. tacos were authentic Mexican type
were roast beef / chicken in a maize grilled with pepper and onion omelette (not as the pepper and onion has calories) .im guess my intake caloric today was around 2900

do you think that if tomorrow to eat around 750 calories from eating only things such as salads, clear egg, Zucchini, and perhaps a slimfast I am well?

the rest of the week should remain in the 1000 range or I follow my plan to the 1500.no I want to gain weight, how can I correct this?

70% of people obese Think that they Are Just "weight"

scale1.jpg

Biased perception of weight among Americans is alive and well, and extends to both ends of the scale according to a recent survey conducted by Harris Interactive and Healthday.

Here are the results of the survey;

70 percent of obese people say are just overweight39 percent of morbidly obese people think are overweight, but not obese.30 percent of people who are overweight I think that really are size. Not "normal" people have only a distorted perception of its weight, but are equally disillusioned how to fix it with respondents citing surgery as the most effective method of weight loss, followed by prescription drugs and over-the-counter dietary food supplements.

If it's an accurate representation of the country as a whole, makes it difficult to be optimistic about fixing the problem of weight of the Nations.

The statistics are not terribly disturbing when you stop and think, however. The prevalence of obesity is likely that has changed the perception of peoples than "normal" is.

Granted there are limitations to the index of corporal mass (IMC) .Personas can oscillate in the category "overweight" and still be healthy and "normal-for-them," depending on your body type.

Perhaps is it a question of semantics? The word "obese" has a more extreme connotation to it, and can scare people to join this term.

What may be regarded as alarming is that feeling of most respondent surgery is the most effective way to lose weight, followed by the medicinal diet and healthy suplementos.Cuando eating or exercising cracks the top 3, you know that there is a problem.

Speaking to a quick-fix mentality is culturally rooted in us.(Note: weight loss surgery is not a quick fix per it and certainly can be effective in many circumstances).

At the other end of the spectrum, 10 million females and 1 million males in the United States are fighting a battle of life and death with a foodstuff disorder such as anorexia or the bulimia.Millones are struggling with disorders of drunkenness.

Are you surprised by any of these statistics? A perception inclined weight attributed it to?

September 18, 2010Steady . . .

Okay, folks.

I'm holding on.  I've eaten real foods the past two days . . .

The question I am pondering was posed in the comment section:  "Why could I lose weight before and I can't seem to now?  What is the difference?"

I am thinking on these things.

I'll let you know if I figure it out . . . or I'll tell you what I know and you can help me figure out the rest.

But in the meantime, I have to sleep so I can be on the soccer field sidelines trying to stay dry tomorrow morning.  At 9:00 a.m.

I finally re-lost the 35 pounds I'd regained. I felt like it was WAY harder. It took 4 months of 90 minutes of high intensity (75-90% max heart rate) cardio 5-6 days a week--45 in the morning, 45 at night.

Posted by:Sarah |September 18, 2010 at 03:24 AM

Ugh...Mel, I'm wondering the same thing! Every time I swear I'm getting back on track, I just don't seem to allow myself. And I don't know why.

Maybe someone will come along with a great answer!

Posted by:Nicole |September 18, 2010 at 04:30 AM

All of the "you can do it" phrases sound like platitudes, but I will say some of them anyway. "You're strong." "One day at a time". "You will be successful!" "Stay the course."

I do know you can do this because you and others, including myself, have done it before. Where the motivation comes from is different with each person and each situation. Dig deep within yourself to find what will work for you this time. In my view, overeating is an addiction and a powerful one. That leads back to "one day at a time". Good luck!

Posted by:LHA |September 18, 2010 at 02:36 PM

Good for you. You CAN do it and you WILL do it. Hope you didn't get drenched at the soccer field this morning. Did you know that next Friday there will be exactly 100 days left in 2010? I'm challenging myself to make some serious progress by Dec 31st.

Posted by:Tish |September 18, 2010 at 02:48 PM

So, it's Sunday and I am promising myself that this week will be different...going to count calories, not take diet pills (because they dont work because clearly, I eat whether I am hungry or not), and I am going to "Schedule" my workouts into my week now so that I dont have an excuse not to go.....but the idea of all that brings such anxiety because i know by Tuesday I wont be putting all my calories into my app, I will have missed a workout and I will be thinking....maybe next week. What is so freaking hard about this and why cant I conquer it!!!
Just needed to share this with someone......good luck to you this week!

Posted by:Laurie |September 19, 2010 at 05:41 AM

Sorry to see your feeling down. I can relate. I've been missing from my blog for 2 years - and have pretty much gained everything back I'd lost.

Have you come up with anything your doing differently now than 2 years ago?

Posted by:dev |September 21, 2010 at 10:50 AM

Hang in there Mel! I am actually joining a "last 100 days of 2010" challenge to kick my weight loss up (or lack thereof actually!)

At 169 pounds, I am still 39 pounds over my highest weight for my height - why couldn't I just be taller! :D

Hugs!
Biz

Posted by:Biz |September 21, 2010 at 12:24 PM

Mel, how are things going? I signed up for a free account at LiveStrong. It's a lot like the on-line WW tracker, except it speaks calories, which is my dieting native language.

I like that the website helped me figure out how many calories to lose 40 pounds at the rate of 1.5 pounds a week.

I only get 1375 calories a day ... so going for a daily walk really helps. It means I can have a glass of wine and a dessert. Otherwise I'd really feel deprived.

Anyway, it's been three weeks and I've lost 7 pounds. I hope everything is going well for you!

I am in the same boat as you. I cannot lose like I did before. Currently I am experiencing the most stress I have ever had in my life.

Stress and lack of sleep are my obstacles, I know that for sure now.

I feel for you! Hang in there! :)

I just don't want to write in this blog.

I just don't want to think about food, though how can I not think about food?  I'm obsessed by food.

I just don't want to do what I am supposed to do.

I also don't want to be seen in public because I am fat.

Good grief.  I'm a mess.

And one day I wrote a long post that I never published and the words flowed out and that felt pretty good too.

I feel your pain, sister, I really do. But please realize that when you go out in public, people don't notice your weight, they see your either your confidence or your lack of it. I think that instead of focusing on food and losing weight, you might try searching for body confidence blogs or something along those lines to help you gain some perspective. First Ourselves (firstourselves.com) has always helped me when I've felt low. Also look up intuitive eating blogs - even if you don't want to do intuitive eating, they usually have some really good resources to check into.

Mostly just know that you are amazing just the way you are. There's nothing wrong with you - you are probably more normal than you even realize!! You'll get out of this valley, eventually. (((hugs)))

I know, I know, I know. I am so tired of constantly dealing with my weight issue. I am up 8 pounds over the summer. There is always a reason why just this one time I can splurge. Back to work.

Maybe just don't think about food this week but rather focus on exercising every day? Baby steps.

Ultimately, who gives a sh**. Really. All of the important things in life are there whether we're fat or not: love, friends, our kids. You know what I mean? At some point our vanity has got to stop messing with us. Yes, we all want to look like skinny supermodels, but would it really change our lives that much? Please don't stress too much about it, Mel. Just do your best everyday and it'll all work out. I've been trying for a month to be good and get some exercise, but my pants don't feel any more loose. **Sigh** But I'm going to forge ahead because I know that it's better for me and that it's not that much of a sacrifice not to eat so much crap food. One day at a time and forgive yourself when you slip. You hear me?
Hugs.

Great comments here.. lots of positive support and confidence-boosters!

Dieting can be such an emotional roller-coaster. Weight losses make us so happy, confident, and bubbly, especially when unexpected. On the other hand, unexpected weight gains can make us swoon with despair, doubt, and cause us to want to crawl into a very dark, quiet hole. Each of these two responses tend to be self-reinforcing. Weight losses make us more determined and resolute; weight gains make us want to give up and eat more food as a form of coping.

I think we've all been to these two places quite often! Fortunately, we are good at rebounding. Those disquieting voices in your head will go away and the dark clouds will part soon enough.. just get through *today* which I think is what a lot of others are referring to by "one day at a time" and "baby steps."

Besides, you've been successful at weight loss before. How was that Mel different from this Mel?

Hmmm First you need to do is to have confidence. Be Positive! You just have to know how to use the right word when someone offended you. Be Strong! Also there are clothes that make a fat person look good. Confidence starts at first then discipline, dedication and being inspired will just come along. oh yeah..don't put the term "baby steps" like doing it slowly, put it like even you did some complete exercise and ending up loosing just 1lbs..don't feel sorry for it because thats going to be your baby steps. One baby step at a time for a better you :)

I have to agree with Randy above. what is the difference? You can do the same as you did before.

I am seriously obsessed with food too. I hate, hate, hate the cycle - I had one great week, lost 1.4, then went on vacation for the holiday weekend, then out of town for work, and now find myself a solid 5 pounds heavier. I am a sponge that absorbs everything! I agree with Laura - baby steps. And I know someone here has told you about Women, Food, and God by Geneen Roth. It is a powerful book, very uncomfortable to read, because it really hit home with me. I wish you much success. Evenutally we will both get to a place where the stuff we shouldn't eat doesn't mean that much, and so we don't eat it.
