Obesity in the United States were expected to grow

BIKER.jpg

Obesity can not be taken lightly - the intention of not pun - with countries like the United States and Mexico buckling under the weight of a global epidemic.

Most health experts are in agreement that the spread of Western life style is largely of guilt; junk more food, is not enough exercise.

And now a new study says that the number of overweight or swell obese people in the United States by 2020.

Study conducted by the Organization for economic cooperation and development (OECD), a French based group that works with the Nations democratic, free market, said in the year 2020, three in four Americans will be overweight or obese, increasing the fees and costs of health care disease.

Obesity's price tag is asombroso.En 1998, 78.5 million dollars were spent in the United States on medical treatment related to obesity; equaling 9.1% of medical expenses of todo.NationMaster.com classifies the United States, Mexico and the United Kingdom as the beginning of three Nations more obese, in that order.

The OECD also fingers as fat nation in the world and forecasts for the year 2010, 75% of Americans will be with sobrepeso.Es why OECD calls interaction and government industry cooperation curb the crisis.

Authors of the study have blamed bad habits to break in obesity: consume too much junk food high in calories, not getting enough exercise and more people eating in restaurants, instead of cooking at home.

Therefore, do you think that we can stop the obesity epidemic?

September 11, 2010My weekend goal: Avoid the cake!

This was the first full week of school for the kids . . . and I did a poor job of getting myself to bed as earlier as possible (which, in my particular life, means about 12:30 a.m.).  That means I dozed most of the morning away after waking up one kid at 6 a.m. and the other at 8 a.m. . . .

Next week, I am going to make a serious effort at getting to bed as soon as possible so I can exercise and get my day off to a more energetic start.  I'm thinking of trying 30 minutes of cardio in the morning and 30 minutes of cardio at night.  I'll let you know how it goes!

Meanwhile, I have a really busy weekend ahead of me . . . which involves more birthday cake, which I am going to avoid at all costs.  Pray for me.  :)

Have a great weekend!

PIC NIC kindergarten bags get a lack grade

KindergardenCop16.jpg

A box lunch audit by dietitian Shannon Crocker 4 classes in kindergarten in Ontario, has left much to be desired.

Cold hot dogs, rubbery trafficking, drinks sweetened fruit and packaged cookies were pair for the course in picketing of Dora and Diego luncheon (children do lunch pales already?).

Here are some other undesirable results of this survey of 82 lunches.

85% of lunch had no vegetables all.Almost each container had a sweet delight and some until five.Only five included lunch milk, but most of them had at least a sugary drink flavoured with little or zero children fruit nutritional value.Most had only a drink to get through the day, while some had no drink in all.92% did not have a cooler - package for some meals containing spaghetti sauces and meat that would be prone to bacteria, leaving for caliente.muchas meals did not provide enough food for the long day that children were in school. Crocker has a theory on this one though;
If a child does not eat much, parents could package of small quantities of food, or busy morning allows little time to mount lunches, money may be a factor, or may not have been plenty of food in the refrigerator that day. Source

Obviously this is about of multi-level.Stresses the need for education and access to healthy food for children. The socioeconomic status of the schools in question was not mentioned, but it goes without saying that children need to have access to healthy foods.

This is further complicated by sponsoring large food item, and a resulting biased perception of what is considered to be "healthy".

I think that parents can take some very simple and inexpensive steps to promote the nutritional quality of lunch in their only seconds hijos.Tarda to include some baby carrots or sliced vegetables (with dip hummus or red pepper for example), an Apple, whole grain cheese biscuits and a sandwich tuna entero.Y, no grain bread takes absolutely not to be included a sugary drink.

If all other fails, get Detective John Kimble to teach your class.

The Twinkie diet: eating junk food and weight loss?

Eating cake - on a diet?

It has been dubbed "the Twinkie diet" by means of communication: Mark Haub, Professor at Kansas State University Department of human nutrition, has been surviving on junk food for last month.

And he has lost weight.

This might seem to fly in front of nutritional conventional wisdom. What after all, the junk food weight results win, right?

Haub began the "Twinkie diet" agosto.Desde 25, has been mainly eat cake swiss, blueberry muffins, rolls for hot dogs, Peanut Butter Oreos, and cinnamon rolls.

As well as the junk food, Haub has milk (protein) and vegetables (for vitamins) with dinner.

By sticking to 1,800 calories per day - roughly less than 600-800, which he would be required to maintain the weight - Haub lost 10 pounds in the first three weeks of "diet".

It should not come as as sorpresa.después, could lose weight eating two candy bars a day: is the calories - calories - verses out what subject.

Haub is not doing this, because he is an addicted to junk food - it supports missing salad and cheese azul.está trying to open debate about how low-income people can not eat healthily (on diet, food costs have dropped to about $ 5 per day):

Is not realistic in some areas of the company to expect that they found fresh broccoli, tomatoes at a price affordable. What if someone can obtain their nutrients from a supplement, and then get your fuel of everything that is available, matter that he is not getting fruit and vegetables and whole grains? what is the well?

Of course, there are great nutritional questions to ask about a diet based on sugar, salt, products processed. nutrition is more than calorías.Además, most people on a diet of junk food would so hungry (due to failures of sugar and lack of fiber) that would be hard-pressed to stick to a restriction of calories.

Do you think? Haub experiment is important in a world where processed, packaged foods are often much cheaper than new ones? O this is a dangerous form of diet?

I retrieve one days excessive power? [Forum]

I have been in a very strict diet for the past few months. I have eaten anywhere from 800-1500 calories a day but fiery 1000 only at the gym during 3 days a week and other days that would make a lighter exercise as a hike of 3 to 5 miles or a 7 vs game of football 7. most of the time my calories would around the year 1000 and probably around the year 1500 maybe twice.

anyway a couple of days ago I decided to my intake of calories to approximately 1500 mean to try to keep my cause of weight that I don't want to lose more, I would just like to keep it.

I was having a hardtime and closer was around the year 1200. I feel pretty guilty eating more.

But today for breakfast which was a pb & J on bread lime 100 thins that there were about 200 calories, calories 387 bran muffin lunch.all was well until dinner and my dad made tacos, I had 7 and two portions large rice Spanish. tacos were authentic Mexican type
were roast beef / chicken in a maize grilled with pepper and onion omelette (not as the pepper and onion has calories) .im guess my intake caloric today was around 2900

do you think that if tomorrow to eat around 750 calories from eating only things such as salads, clear egg, Zucchini, and perhaps a slimfast I am well?

the rest of the week should remain in the 1000 range or I follow my plan to the 1500.no I want to gain weight, how can I correct this?

70% of people obese Think that they Are Just "weight"

scale1.jpg

Biased perception of weight among Americans is alive and well, and extends to both ends of the scale according to a recent survey conducted by Harris Interactive and Healthday.

Here are the results of the survey;

70 percent of obese people say are just overweight39 percent of morbidly obese people think are overweight, but not obese.30 percent of people who are overweight I think that really are size. Not "normal" people have only a distorted perception of its weight, but are equally disillusioned how to fix it with respondents citing surgery as the most effective method of weight loss, followed by prescription drugs and over-the-counter dietary food supplements.

If it's an accurate representation of the country as a whole, makes it difficult to be optimistic about fixing the problem of weight of the Nations.

The statistics are not terribly disturbing when you stop and think, however. The prevalence of obesity is likely that has changed the perception of peoples than "normal" is.

Granted there are limitations to the index of corporal mass (IMC) .Personas can oscillate in the category "overweight" and still be healthy and "normal-for-them," depending on your body type.

Perhaps is it a question of semantics? The word "obese" has a more extreme connotation to it, and can scare people to join this term.

What may be regarded as alarming is that feeling of most respondent surgery is the most effective way to lose weight, followed by the medicinal diet and healthy suplementos.Cuando eating or exercising cracks the top 3, you know that there is a problem.

Speaking to a quick-fix mentality is culturally rooted in us.(Note: weight loss surgery is not a quick fix per it and certainly can be effective in many circumstances).

At the other end of the spectrum, 10 million females and 1 million males in the United States are fighting a battle of life and death with a foodstuff disorder such as anorexia or the bulimia.Millones are struggling with disorders of drunkenness.

Are you surprised by any of these statistics? A perception inclined weight attributed it to?

September 18, 2010Steady . . .

Okay, folks.

I'm holding on.  I've eaten real foods the past two days . . .

The question I am pondering was posed in the comment section:  "Why could I lose weight before and I can't seem to now?  What is the difference?"

I am thinking on these things.

I'll let you know if I figure it out . . . or I'll tell you what I know and you can help me figure out the rest.

But in the meantime, I have to sleep so I can be on the soccer field sidelines trying to stay dry tomorrow morning.  At 9:00 a.m.

I finally re-lost the 35 pounds I'd regained. I felt like it was WAY harder. It took 4 months of 90 minutes of high intensity (75-90% max heart rate) cardio 5-6 days a week--45 in the morning, 45 at night.

Posted by:Sarah |September 18, 2010 at 03:24 AM

Ugh...Mel, I'm wondering the same thing! Every time I swear I'm getting back on track, I just don't seem to allow myself. And I don't know why.

Maybe someone will come along with a great answer!

Posted by:Nicole |September 18, 2010 at 04:30 AM

All of the "you can do it" phrases sound like platitudes, but I will say some of them anyway. "You're strong." "One day at a time". "You will be successful!" "Stay the course."

I do know you can do this because you and others, including myself, have done it before. Where the motivation comes from is different with each person and each situation. Dig deep within yourself to find what will work for you this time. In my view, overeating is an addiction and a powerful one. That leads back to "one day at a time". Good luck!

Posted by:LHA |September 18, 2010 at 02:36 PM

Good for you. You CAN do it and you WILL do it. Hope you didn't get drenched at the soccer field this morning. Did you know that next Friday there will be exactly 100 days left in 2010? I'm challenging myself to make some serious progress by Dec 31st.

Posted by:Tish |September 18, 2010 at 02:48 PM

So, it's Sunday and I am promising myself that this week will be different...going to count calories, not take diet pills (because they dont work because clearly, I eat whether I am hungry or not), and I am going to "Schedule" my workouts into my week now so that I dont have an excuse not to go.....but the idea of all that brings such anxiety because i know by Tuesday I wont be putting all my calories into my app, I will have missed a workout and I will be thinking....maybe next week. What is so freaking hard about this and why cant I conquer it!!!
Just needed to share this with someone......good luck to you this week!

Sorry to see your feeling down. I can relate. I've been missing from my blog for 2 years - and have pretty much gained everything back I'd lost.

Have you come up with anything your doing differently now than 2 years ago?

Posted by:dev |September 21, 2010 at 10:50 AM

Hang in there Mel! I am actually joining a "last 100 days of 2010" challenge to kick my weight loss up (or lack thereof actually!)

At 169 pounds, I am still 39 pounds over my highest weight for my height - why couldn't I just be taller! :D

Hugs!

Mel, how are things going? I signed up for a free account at LiveStrong. It's a lot like the on-line WW tracker, except it speaks calories, which is my dieting native language.

I like that the website helped me figure out how many calories to lose 40 pounds at the rate of 1.5 pounds a week.

I only get 1375 calories a day ... so going for a daily walk really helps. It means I can have a glass of wine and a dessert. Otherwise I'd really feel deprived.

Anyway, it's been three weeks and I've lost 7 pounds. I hope everything is going well for you!

I am in the same boat as you. I cannot lose like I did before. Currently I am experiencing the most stress I have ever had in my life.

Stress and lack of sleep are my obstacles, I know that for sure now.

I feel for you! Hang in there! :)

September 15, 2010Gloom. Despair.

I just don't want to write in this blog.

I just don't want to think about food, though how can I not think about food?  I'm obsessed by food.

I just don't want to do what I am supposed to do.

I also don't want to be seen in public because I am fat.

Good grief.  I'm a mess.

Hugs!!! For me, sometimes when I feel that way it helps to spend time in the blog world, reading other blogs. Sometimes it makes me laugh, sometimes it reminds me I am not along, sometimes I find a little inspiration. And one day I wrote a long post that I never published and the words flowed out and that felt pretty good too.

Posted by:Karen |September 15, 2010 at 06:50 AM

I feel your pain, sister, I really do. But please realize that when you go out in public, people don't notice your weight, they see your either your confidence or your lack of it. I think that instead of focusing on food and losing weight, you might try searching for body confidence blogs or something along those lines to help you gain some perspective. First Ourselves (firstourselves.com) has always helped me when I've felt low. Also look up intuitive eating blogs - even if you don't want to do intuitive eating, they usually have some really good resources to check into.

Mostly just know that you are amazing just the way you are. There's nothing wrong with you - you are probably more normal than you even realize!! You'll get out of this valley, eventually. (((hugs)))

I know, I know, I know. I am so tired of constantly dealing with my weight issue. I am up 8 pounds over the summer. There is always a reason why just this one time I can splurge. Back to work.

Posted by:Carol |September 15, 2010 at 08:20 AM

Maybe just don't think about food this week but rather focus on exercising every day? Baby steps.

Posted by:Laura |September 15, 2010 at 12:12 PM

Ultimately, who gives a sh**. Really. All of the important things in life are there whether we're fat or not: love, friends, our kids. You know what I mean? At some point our vanity has got to stop messing with us. Yes, we all want to look like skinny supermodels, but would it really change our lives that much? Please don't stress too much about it, Mel. Just do your best everyday and it'll all work out. I've been trying for a month to be good and get some exercise, but my pants don't feel any more loose. **Sigh** But I'm going to forge ahead because I know that it's better for me and that it's not that much of a sacrifice not to eat so much crap food. One day at a time and forgive yourself when you slip. You hear me?
Hugs.

Great comments here.. lots of positive support and confidence-boosters!

Dieting can be such an emotional roller-coaster. Weight losses make us so happy, confident, and bubbly, especially when unexpected. On the other hand, unexpected weight gains can make us swoon with despair, doubt, and cause us to want to crawl into a very dark, quiet hole. Each of these two responses tend to be self-reinforcing. Weight losses make us more determined and resolute; weight gains make us want to give up and eat more food as a form of coping.

I think we've all been to these two places quite often! Fortunately, we are good at rebounding. Those disquieting voices in your head will go away and the dark clouds will part soon enough.. just get through *today* which I think is what a lot of others are referring to by "one day at a time" and "baby steps."

Besides, you've been successful at weight loss before. How was that Mel different from this Mel?

Posted by:Randy |September 15, 2010 at 05:02 PM

Hmmm First you need to do is to have confidence. Be Positive! You just have to know how to use the right word when someone offended you. Be Strong! Also there are clothes that make a fat person look good. Confidence starts at first then discipline, dedication and being inspired will just come along. oh yeah..don't put the term "baby steps" like doing it slowly, put it like even you did some complete exercise and ending up loosing just 1lbs..don't feel sorry for it because thats going to be your baby steps. One baby step at a time for a better you :)

Posted by:MB |September 16, 2010 at 06:15 AM

I have to agree with Randy above. what is the difference? You can do the same as you did before.

Posted by:Ian |September 16, 2010 at 11:31 AM

I am seriously obsessed with food too. I hate, hate, hate the cycle - I had one great week, lost 1.4, then went on vacation for the holiday weekend, then out of town for work, and now find myself a solid 5 pounds heavier. I am a sponge that absorbs everything! I agree with Laura - baby steps. And I know someone here has told you about Women, Food, and God by Geneen Roth. It is a powerful book, very uncomfortable to read, because it really hit home with me. I wish you much success. Evenutally we will both get to a place where the stuff we shouldn't eat doesn't mean that much, and so we don't eat it.

October 02, 2010Product Review: Want a Van's whole-grain waffle?

Here's the deal.  The folks at Van's Natural Foods sent me a coupon to try their whole-grain waffles free.  I wondered where I could find them, but it turns out that a lot of different stores sell them.  I purchased mine from Fred Meyer.

I tried the whole-grain waffles, though the coupon is good for a free package of either waffles, pancakes or french toast sticks.

And I liked these waffles a lot . They were crispy and delicious.  I heartily recommend them.  (They are nutritious, too, superior to other waffles on the market.)

Anyway, if you'd like to try these waffles, leave a comment.  I have four coupons for a free package.  (You can check to make sure that you can purchase these in your area using the handy-dandy store locator.)

I'll pick four of you at random to receive a coupon.

Have a great weekend!

(Here's more info, straight from the public relations department:

"Van’sNatural Foods, a frozen breakfast company that only uses natural,minimally-processed, good for you ingredients, has just introduced a new lineof Lite waffles. With just 70 calories per waffle, 6 grams of fiber per servingand honey-sweetened taste, they make for a delicious and healthy start to anyday!

Thesewaffles are just what the doctor would order, as they are free of high-fructosecorn syrup and are sweetened with honey and pure cane sugar. They are made witha mix of whole grains, using both traditional and exotic ingredients including:whole wheat, oat, barley, brown rice, dark rye, quinoa, amaranth and milletflours. When compared to the typical frozen waffles we’ve all grownaccustomed to, this blend really makes for a unique texture and has a much more“grown-up” taste.")

I've always wanted to try Van's waffles, they're just pretty expensive compared to other brands.

I love Vans waffles. Especially since my kids have milk allergies and they are one of the only waffles that don't have milk!

i would like to try it! Thanks!

Posted by:Chung Li |October 02, 2010 at 07:16 AM

I love waffles. But frankly most frozen waffles on the market are, well, boring. I'd love to try as they sound much more interesting and tasty than all of the ho-hum waffles out there.

Posted by:Somebody's Mother |October 02, 2010 at 08:35 AM

I'd love to try them! Thanks for the coupon offer.

Posted by:Jen Bartling |October 02, 2010 at 05:45 PM

I'd love to try one of the coupons, and I found a store in our town. Thanks!

Posted by:Deb |October 02, 2010 at 06:28 PM

This post is such a coincidence! Just yesterday, my 14 yr old son was looking in our freezer and asked me why EGGO doesn't make whole wheat frozen waffles. I told him they do, but they are never on sale like the others!

So, we would love to win a coupon for the Van's whole grain frozen waffles! (And my local Shop-Rite, where I shop regularly, carries them. Hooray!)

Posted by:Karen D. |October 02, 2010 at 07:05 PM

These waffles sound good, I'll have to give them a try.

Hope all goes well with your husband's new job and the move to CA.

I've left a blog award for you at

Thank you.

What? You mean the rest of the world didn't beat me to the front of the line?

So excited about those grams of fiber. Eating high fiber is a HUGE help--keeps me full.

Me want waffles!
